About the Bastos Team
Ladies and Gentleman, we are Bastos Entertainment! So what the hell are we actually about? Well, we consist of (but not limited to) Filipinos with many different unique personalities (respectively) who love to make videos with that laugh-til-it-gives-you-a-six-pack flavor! It’s a hobby, a job, an honor to film something that brings the joy and amusement into your homes. What kind of funny? A stupid type of funny! Slapstick humor! Random humor! Toilet humor! Unlike most Asian American bloggers/comedians/filmakers on the web, we explore many DIFFERENT forms of comedy through our original skits and ideas. From fart jokes to jokes of wit – if it makes you laugh, we’ll do it!
PLEASE NOTE: The word "Bastos" is arguably the most controversial word in the Filipino language. For those who don't know, "Bastos" means a series of negative meanings that may be unpleasant to those who understand it's description - for example: "Bastos" (in Filipino) means perverted, rude, crude, or jackass. Although "Bastos" is indeed the root word of our comedy group's name, we would like to stress that our sole purpose is NOT to perform acts of "perversion" or overly "rude" and offensive behavior. While some material may "push the limits" for the sake of entertainment - be aware that our intentions are strictly to entertain in a "mostly-clean" fashion. Many may find this contradicting, but with an open mind - it's all in good fun! Thank You. (read on to understand how the word Bastos was incorporated into our group name)
We do what we love, you love what we do, and we do it for you.
How it Happened
Bastos Entertainment is a group that has been influenced by many different Asian-American comedy/film groups. The original concept of “Bastos” was founded by the Tsinilas Crew (www.tsinilas.com). They utilized the humor found on the famous “Jackass” show and created several videos for the world to enjoy. Inspired by this concept, Jeff Cachero, Phillip Roduta, and Andrew Cachero have created a similar brand called The Brown and Bastos late 2004/early 2005. The Brown and Bastos, at the time, only consisted of these three Bastos Boys. The early material consisted of the familiar “Jackass” theme, and seemed to have felt watered down, so the Filipino “three-stooges” decided to take it into a different direction.
In mid 2005, The Bastos Boys decided to recruit more members for more onscreen personality in hopes for a more broad approach in the many forms of comedy that can be demonstrated. The new recruits included: Stephanie Cachero, Kimberly Roduta, Thomas Roduta, Mark Navo, Milbert Tumaliuan, Robert Tumaliuan, and Gilbert Tumaliuan, most of which were family and close friends. The increase of members ultimately led the group to change their junction name to something more suitable: The Bastos Team. For a chance at better exposure, the team began to post their early material on a newly established website (at the time) - the current phenomenon we all know as “YouTube”. Most of the material were based on inside jokes that audiences may have had trouble understanding, so the team took another chance and decided to expand even further.
In late 2005, the Bastos Team brought in Ian Dipasupil, Paul Basco, and Mickey Orda. The Bastos Team then formed sub-teams known as The Bastos Boys (Jeff, Phillip, and Andrew), The Bastos Bebots/Femme Fatales (Stephanie, Kimberly, and Mickey), The Ba-Boys (Ian, Mark, and Paul), and The Tanga Trio (Milbert, Robert, and Gilbert) – in hopes to be more efficient and organized. Material began to increase, launching video after video. Throughout 2006, the success of the team was slow yet evident. Comedy material has improved and ideas were easier to generate.
Exclusive members have been established by mid 2007; these members would include: Jeff Cachero, Phillip Roduta, Andrew Cachero, Ian Dipasupil, Mark Navo, Paul Basco, Milbert Tumaliuan, Robert Tumaliuan, along with newcomer Francis Zavalla. Alongside Francis was Bryan Bilocura, who was added to the team’s roster as their audio guy, and prefers to work behind the scenes; by mid 2008, Katherine Munda (a series regular since early 2007) was finally inducted into the team - who later will be accompanied by a 2nd "Kat" in October of 2008, making them the only two current female members.
Bastos Entertainment: East Coast
On October 28th 2008, the three original Bastos Boys (Jeff, Phillip, and Andrew) announced the inclusion of Reggie Soriano (Regisor94) and Kat D. (KitKatPattieWhack) in Team Bastos. They will be representing Bastos Entertainment on the East Coast of North America; Reggie being in Virginia and Kat being in New York.
With a more organized and focused approach, members of Bastos Entertainment will continue to create great, fun-loving, laugh-out-loud material as long as we possibly can – for us, for you! Team Bastos would like to say thank you for your support and hope for you to continue visiting us as our endeavors for entertaining continue!
B-Tunes
The B-Tunes is a musical spin-off group of Team Bastos (established in late 2006); this team is to demonstrate that we are not only people who create crazy yet entertaining skits, but also have excellent talent in music. In this group, you will find talents such as Milbert Tumaliuan, Bryan Bilocura, Ian Dipasupil, Francis Zavalla, Phillip Roduta, Paul Basco, Robert Tumaliuan, and more familiar faces of Bastos Entertainment.
